Parts of Your Car That Need the Most Attention
education

Being a car owner is quite the responsibility. Not only do you need to be careful when behind the wheel, but you also have to do your part to ensure that your vehicle remains in good condition. In order to do that, you need to keep a close eye on it.

While some things are easy to track, others can slip between the cracks if you’re not careful. That’s why we’re reviewing the parts of your car that need more attention than most of us typically give. Hopefully, with these in mind, you’ll have fewer surprises the next time you go to the shop.

Air Filter

For your vehicle’s engine to run properly, it needs to receive the cleanest air possible. While this air won’t always be perfect, it can get quite bad if you don’t monitor your air filter’s dirtiness. Fortunately, this isn’t something you need to check constantly since you only need to replace it once about every 10,000 miles or so. However, if you go off-roading a lot or live in a dusty area, you might need to check up on it more frequently, so keep that in mind.

Fluid Levels

You should take a look at your vehicle’s fluid levels more often. Everyone who owns a car knows that you need to change your oil every 3,000 to 5,000 miles, but not many people check their other car fluids. Things like transmission, brake, coolant, and power steering fluid are crucial for your car to run smoothly. Even though the people who change your oil will usually check these things for you, it’s never a bad idea to look at them yourself to ensure none of them run out.

Tires

Even though the tires are an essential part of any vehicle, not enough people check them as often as they should. Tire tread and pressure are two things you should look at frequently, especially when going into winter. You need enough tread to have traction through the snow and ice, and tire pressure decreases when the temperature drops.

On top of that, you should check your wheel alignment from time to time. There are many things that car owners should know about wheel alignment. But the main thing to be aware of is that a bad alignment can lead to unnecessary wear and tear. If you notice that your tires are at a weird angle, you should take your car in immediately.

Brakes

Finally, we come to the brakes. This is a part of the car that needs a considerable amount of attention. Stopping is the most important function of your vehicle. Without good brake pads and rotors, you’ll potentially put yourself and everyone else on the road in harm’s way. Even though these parts can be a little difficult to check on your own, it’s easy to tell when they’re worn. Just be sure to give them a look every so often.
