You know what I’ve been thinking? The Lynnfield/Wakefield boys swim team had a tough task ahead of it last Wednesday, Jan. 17, but with things coming down to the final race, its splash was just a bit bigger than the other team’s.
With the Cape Ann League regular season championship on the line, the boys pulled out a 53-41 nail-biting win against Triton.
They upped their record to 5-0, too.
Lynnfield/Wakefield, holding just a 44-40 lead late, poured it on in the meet-concluding 400 freestyle relay with Robert Brown, Henry Brown, James Cook and Evan Chan placing first. Sam Childress, Kurt Rothermund, Nick DeGennaro and Andee Shieh followed in second.
“We entered this season with very high expectations for ourselves,” said coach Jeff Boyd. “The goal was to go undefeated and win a second consecutive championship. They worked hard all season… For our senior boys, this marks three league championships in their four years of high school.”
Looking to double up this Sunday, next for the boys is the Cape Ann League championship meet at 5 p.m. at the Beverly Sterling YMCA.
