ROUNDUP: Three-headed monster leads Fenwick girls basketball

Bishop Fenwick’s girls basketball team is 2-0 after defeating Archbishop Williams, 62-34, in Braintree.

Talk about a big three. Senior captain Cecilia Kay had 22 points, 16 rebounds, four assists, and four steals, sophomore Caitlin Boyle had 16 points and eight rebounds, and sophomore Celia Neilson had 11 points, six assists, and seven steals.

The Crusaders travel to take on Newburyport on Wednesday.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Swampscott 37
Gloucester 35

They never gave up.

Swampscott (1-1) trailed nearly the entire game – up until the final minute, even – then reeled in the Fishermen, 37-35. Senior Jesse Ford (12 points) hit a 3-pointer with 40 seconds to go, and freshman Olivia Quagrello (14) hit the go-ahead basket with 19 seconds remaining.

Senior Victoria Quagrello finished with eight points, seven rebounds and five assists for Swampscott, which takes on Whittier Tech on Tuesday.

St. Mary’s 65
Masconomet 35

The Spartans (3-0) got the job done again to start the young season, topping Masco, 65-35. Bella Owumi (21 points, 11 rebounds), Jillian Roberts (9 points, 6 steals), AJ Hyacinthe (7 points, 4 steals) and Sky Watson (8 points) led the charge against the Chieftains.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Shawsheen 70
Lynn Tech 65

Despite the efforts of Giovanni Jean (19 points, 5 assists, 5 rebounds) and Ederick Gonzalez (12 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists), Tech fell short Friday, falling to 1-1 on the season.

Lynnfield 65
Pentucket 59

The Pioneers connected on eight 3-pointers and topped Pentucket, 65-59, Friday night. Chris Daniels (22 points), Alex Fleming (14), and Zach Pincus (9 on three 3-pointers) all impressed.

“Great team win in a game that was back and forth,” said coach John Bakopolus.

Peabody 71
Beverly 57

Fresh off its 62-40 win against Masconomet earlier this week, Peabody tamed the Panthers, 71-58.

The Tanners were led by red-hot Anthony Forte (31 points, 5 assists, 4 rebounds), Raphel Laurent (23 points, 5 assists, 4 rebounds, 2 blocks), Jariel Tolentino (6 points, 6 rebounds), and John Lucas (4 points, 4 rebounds, 2 steals, block).

“Cam Connolly, Jimmy Festa, Aneudy Medrano, and Yanni Pappas all contributed big minutes,” said coach Thad Broughton.

TRACK AND FIELD

BC High 24

St. John’s Prep (2-0) won its second meet of the season. Event winners were Andrew Vigneaux, Ahmir Hykel, Brendan Burke, Nick MacDonald, Dan Padley, Tyler Navarro, Tireni Asenuga, Geo Moretti, Gael Garcia, Lincoln Massaro, Aithan Bezanson, and Noah Kabel.

Prep runs into Catholic Memorial on Tuesday.
