ROUNDUP: Big third quarter catapults Lynn Classical

Capitalizing on their home court advantage, the Lynn Classical Rams raced to a 69-58 win against Somerville in Thursday’s boys basketball action. 

Rolky Brea Arias had 20 points and 14 rebounds, while DJ Reynolds netted 18 in the victory.

“It was a very big win on the road,” said Classical coach Marvin Avery, whose Rams went on a 20-2 run in the third quarter after leading just 31-26 at halftime.

“We caused a lot of turnovers tonight and we’ve really been playing good basketball lately,” Avery said.

Classical kept its record (7-5) above .500 before it hosts Medford at 7 p.m. on Monday.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Lynn English 76 

Chelsea 37

Good teams extend the lead. The Lynn English boys hoops team led just 29-24 at halftime in this one, but pulled away from Chelsea in a 76-37 final.

Much to the home fans’ delight, English outscored Everett 22-4 in the third quarter. The Bulldogs were led by Kyle Kemembin’s game-high 21 points. He also tracked down 14 rebounds and dished out three assists.

English visits Revere Tuesday and hosts Malden Thursday.

Lynnfield 60

North Reading 51

The Lynnfield Pioneers upped their record to 11-4 (9-3 in the Cape Ann League) after knocking off North Reading, 60-51, on the road. 

Leading the way were Alex Fleming (17 points, 15 rebounds), Chris Daniels (17 points, 12 rebounds), and Iain McCarthy (11 points). 

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Lynn Classical 39 

Somerville 17

The Lady Rams more than doubled up Somerville on its own hardwood, returning to Lynn with a 39-17 victory.

Classical (11-2) was led by Lauren Wilson (12 points), Divine Egbuta (6), Keisha Perez (6), and Savannah Tang (5). 

As of Thursday night, the Lady Rams rank No. 31 in the MIAA Division 3 power rankings.
