SWAMPSCOTT— The Town Clerk’s office announced that the deadline for pulling nomination papers for the upcoming Town Election is Friday, March 8 at 5 p.m.
The nomination papers are the forms on which potential candidates obtain valid signatures of registered voters in town for the office that is being sought. Eight offices have at least one position up for election in 2024.
The election is April 30.
Town Moderator will be voted on for a one-year term. The Board of Health, Board of Assessors, and Public Library Trustees have one seat open each for a three-year term, while the School Committee has two seats. The Housing Authority has one position open for a five-year term.
Incumbent Select Board member Peter Spellios is the only member whose term is up for renewal this year, and Danielle Leonard and Katie Arrington are each running campaigns in the hopes of earning the seat. As of press time, Spellios has yet to pull papers to run for re-election. Vice Chair Katie Phelan and member MaryEllen Fletcher’s current terms expire in 2025, while Chair David Grishman and member Doug Thompson’s terms end in 2026.
The deadline to submit nomination papers and for incumbents to notify the Town Clerk of their intent to run for reelection is Tuesday, March 12 at 5 p.m. According to Assistant Town Clerk Michael Brison, Arrington and Leonard are the only candidates who have returned their nomination paperwork thus far. Thursday, March 28 is the final day to withdraw or object to nomination papers. April 19 is the deadline for voter registration ahead of the election.
