SAUGUS — Officials on Sunday identified a 42-year-old man as the victim of a fatal stabbing at the Kowloon Restaurant Saturday night.

Patrick Kenney, Jr., of Milton, was found with a knife wound in the parking lot outside the iconic Route 1 landmark after 9 p.m. Saturday, Essex County District Attorney Paul Tucker and Saugus Police Chief Michael Ricciardelli said in a joint statement. Kenney was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The stabbing appears to be accidental, and no other parties are believed to have been involved, the statement said.

The incident marks the second violent event at the iconic Route 1 landmark in less than two weeks, after a brawl on Thanksgiving eve. Four people were charged in the aftermath of that brawl, including two 19-year-olds.

The Essex County District Attorney’s Office State Police Detective Unit and detectives from the Saugus Police Department are investigating the incident, the statement said.
