LYNN — No. 14 Cambridge Rindge & Latin, meet No. 30 Lynn English.
In a Division 1 boys basketball showdown at Lynn English High on Friday – one that, frankly, came with a state tournament atmosphere – the host Bulldogs (16-3) took care of their dog pound in 68-65 fashion.
Rindge & Latin (15-3) held a three-point lead with 1:16 to go, but it wasn’t enough to keep English down behind coach Alvin Abreu.
Not only did Kyle Kemembin lead the way with 27 points, but he made a late basket – plus the foul – to win the game for the Bulldogs.
At halftime, English looked to be in control, but a 7-1 run from the visitors put them ahead, 35-32, at the break. Runs were an issue for English as it allowed an 8-0 spurt in the first half, too.
But in the end, English made its argument for a boost in the Division 1 standings with a statement win at home. The Bulldogs are also fourth in Division 1 when it comes to average margin of victory (6.94 points).
